Montrose photographer Tony Morrison

Montrose photographer Tony Morrison

The funeral has taken place of Montrose photographer Anthony Morrison, who died peacefully aged 56 following a short illness.

Mr Morrison, known as Tony, was born the elder of two siblings in Masterton, New Zealand, on September 5 1958.

At the age of 21 he left his homeland to travel around the world, first working in an Australian gold mine before making his way across Morocco, Madrid, and then to London, where he took a job working as a nanny.

Following this, he picked daffodils in Cornwall and moved to do a similar job in Montrose, where he met Nicola.

The couple married on September 5 1988, Mr Morrison’s 30th birthday, and had two daughters but separated in 2002.

Mr Morrison eventually took his love of photography and turned professional.

Mr Morrison was diagnosed with cancer in January but continued working and was on the scene during a dramatic fishing boat rescue off the coast of Montrose in February.

His striking image of the boat being pulled into the harbour by the Montrose lifeboat made the front page of The Courier in what was his last job for the paper as a freelance photographer.

He is survived by sister Jayne, his daughters Tanya and Rachel, son Daniel, and two grandchildren, Archie and Maria.
