Harley-Davidson riders gather in Brechin for pilgrimage to biking legend’s spiritual home

BRAVO Brechin bagged a biker bonanza as thousands thronged the town for Saturday’s Harley in the City event.

It’s thought crowd numbers could have crept towards five figures to catch the spectacle of hundreds of Harley-Davidson motorcycles riding into town, and watch families throw themselves down the UK’s largest street waterslide.

Summer sun saw the closed-off town centre packed with visitors, and the delighted organisers have promised that the massive response will only fuel their appetite for delivering even more appealing events.

The now-restored Davidson Legacy cottage near the cathedral city is the spiritual home of the renowned motorcycle marque and the Brechin event has now firmly established itself as an annual pilgrimage for Harley owners, with enthusiasts travelling from as far as southern England for the gathering.

BRAVO Brechin chairman Bill Sturrock said: “We probably have around 450 bikes in total, many of them Harleys but of all different kinds.

“The ride-out has been spectacular once again, but we want to grow the event even more and have had discussions with the Harley-Davidson chapters and the dealerships about how we can continue to take this forward.”

He added: “It’s a huge amount of work but we had new blood come into BRAVO at our recent AGM and that’s great for getting a new perspective on things and bringing new ideas forward.”

Attention will now turn to the Halloween in the City event with the fast action Brechin cartie races as its centrepiece on Saturday October 31.
