Montrose FC target pitch perfect music to help strikers net more goals

An Angus football club is looking for a motivational theme to help strikers bang in more goals on match days.

One of the hallmarks of modern football is the stirring goal celebration music, which Montrose FC believe is lacking from its Links Park ground.

And the club have invited Gable Endies supporters to suggest some suitable tunes, which will be vetted by the players.

In return, the provider of the winning entry will receive a football signed by manager Paul Hegarty’s squad.

Club captain Paul Watson said the right anthem will provide the finishing touch to “a really good atmosphere” among Mighty Mo supporters this season.

He added: “Obviously winning games helps but the numbers have increased and the young fans turning out every week with their drums and singing throughout the 90 minutes has been excellent.

“Goal music would add to that atmosphere and hopefully continue to add to the positive feel at the club.”

The club are sitting in fourth place in League Two, two points behind leaders Annan Athletic.

But it took days for fans to recover in May following a great escape from relegation to the Highland League.

Paul Hegarty’s men overturned a one-goal deficit to win the second leg of the pyramid play-off 3-1 against Brora Rangers to retain their league status.

More than 2,000 fans turned out at Links Park and they partied on the pitch with the players at full-time before the festivities continued well into the night.

Such celebrations had not been seen in the town since the club gained promotion to the first division in 1991 under Doug Rougvie and Chic McLelland.

The club has asked fans to “get their thinking caps on” to help players on the pitch.

Mascot Monty Mole told The Courier: “The music doesn’t last long after a goal is scored so it needs to be upbeat and catchy, and one that the fans will recognise and hopefully join in with.”

Suggestions should be sent to Regan Tammi in the club office at office@montrosefc.co.uk or to Montrose FC, Links Park Stadium, Wellington Street, Montrose, DD10 8QD. The closing date for entries is October 31.A few suggestions for the DJ…Top 5 Mighty Mo inspired hits for the Gable Endies:
