A young man who assaulted his girlfriend after she admitted cheating on him and then breached a bail order banning him from contacting her has been fined by a sheriff.
Forfar Sheriff Court heard Mark Ross’s relationship with the woman is now at a complete end after the events of last year and the 20-year-old is disappointed his conduct has led to him getting a criminal record.
Ross, of Lamley Terrace, Arbroath, appeared before Sheriff Pino De Emidio at Forfar, where he admitted assaulting the woman by slapping her at a house on Duncan Avenue, Arbroath, on July 21 and behaving in a threatening and abusive manner.
He admitted another assault on August 3 by pushing the woman on the neck and breaching bail on October 5 by contacting the girl.
The court heard the pair had been in a relationship for about 10 months but on the morning of the July assault, Ross lost his temper when she told him she had been unfaithful.
During the argument, he broke her phone by throwing it against a wall but both parties ended up crying and they patched things up.
On the date of the second assault, the couple were having an argument on Facebook before Ross went to her home and pushed her when she told him that she did not want to speak to him.
Ross was bailed for the offences but then became involved in what the court heard was a “heated conversation” after he had made phone contact with her in contravention of the court order.
Defence solicitor Billy Rennie said: “There is now no contact. There was a recent Facebook reference to him, in which he was referred to in less than flattering terms, but he ignored that.
“He thought the relationship was more serious than the woman’s behaviour suggested it deserved.
“It’s unfortunate he now has a criminal record as a result of these matters but I would suggest they are at the lower end of the scale in terms of this type of matter which comes before the court.”
Sheriff Di Emidio fined Ross £520.
