Forfar ready to welcome riders of all ages to second festival

This year’s Angus Cycling Festival takes place this weekend with a packed programme of events for people of all abilities.

The two-day event, which was run for the first time last year, is based at Reid Park in Forfar and cyclists from throughout Scotland are expected to attend.

Highlights include the Forfar Funduro on Saturday, which will see 150 riders battle to be the winner in a race across Balmashanner Hill and Reid Park. There will also be a slalom course through Reid Park.

Also on Saturday, youngsters will compete in the Scottish Cycling and Big Tree Campervans Youth Races regional race series.

On Sunday the final round of the Scottish Cross Country Championship will take place on a tough course across Balmashanner Hill and Reid Park. Meanwhile there will be a competition for the best trick at Reid Park.

On both days there will be a trade village, food tent and bike demonstrations, as well as the chance to try to get the fastest time on a wooden track.

The festival has been organised by local not-for- profit group Angus Cycle Hub, Muckmedden Events and Angus Bike Chain Cycling Club.

Angus Cycle Hub director Scott Francis said: “We’re hoping to double last year’s turnout and are thrilled to be hosting the final round of the Scottish Cross Country Championship this year.

“The previous year’s event was estimated to have an economic impact of around £10,000 to the local region, with participants covering over 5,000 miles by bicycle, and we are hoping to surpass that this year.”
