Organisers of the Angus Cycling Festival said the event “exceeded all expectations”.

Running for the second year at Reid Park in Forfar, the festival brought riders of all ages and abilities to Angus.

Around 200 people took part in the Forfar Funduro Enduro event on Balmashanner Hill and Reid Park on Saturday

Yesterday Forfar hosted the final of the SXC Scottish Cross Country Championship, a stunt competition and two ladies cycle events.

Throughout the event there was a trade village, food tent and bike demonstrations, and a chance to try for the fastest time on a wooden track.

Organiser Scott Francis, from Angus Cycling Hub, said around twice as many attended this year as last.

“Last year we had a day-and-a-half of events this year it’s two full days of family entertainment,” he said.

“We couldn’t have done it without the help of Angus Council, who provided us with £10,000 of grants.

“We’ve been well supported by other businesses and the community as well.

“Last year participants covered about 5,000 miles. This year our riders will cover between 8,000 and 9,000 miles.”

He said plans were already under way to hold the festival again next year.

“It’s going to be hard to top it next year, but we’ll try,” said Scott.

“We are keen for more people to become involved in the event. Last year we had 52 volunteers and this year it was only 38. Hopefully the festival will promote cycling across the region.”
