Families who visit a dark Tayside forest will encounter a timeless world of dragons, trolls and fairies with a 21st Century twist.
The augmented reality adventure DragonQuest is about to give the visiting public a look at a first-of-its-kind event that will see Monikie Country Park teem with magical creatures.
The performance, hosted by Edinburgh theatre company Vision Mechanics, will see visitors encouraged to download a mobile device app search for SneakaPeek AR on Android, Apple and Kindle Fire in advance, and hunt for woodland tags which reveal a story and a hidden world of 3D animated creatures.
DragonQuest has been supported by Creative Scotland, EventScotland, part of the VisitScotland Events Directorate, and Angus Council.
Deputy Provost of Angus Alex King said: “We are delighted to be supporting DragonQuest and we are looking forward to welcoming visitors from across Angus and further afield.
“As the nights are starting to get darker, the woods are coming alive with the magic of DragonQuest and Monikie Country Park is the ideal setting for people looking for something different this autumn.”
Angus council’s tourism spokeswoman Mairi Evans said autumn is the “perfect time” to visit the county.
She added: “It’s also a great time of year to experience the Angus countryside as it changes colour with the season.
“Enjoy a walk along the stunning coastline or visit the stunning Angus glens the views will leave you speechless.”
VisitScotland launched a Brilliant Moments advertising campaign to inspire people to take a break to the region later this year.
Events director Paul Bush said: “We are delighted to support DragonQuest, showcasing the country’s natural and artistic assets.
“Scotland is the perfect stage for events, and this immersive night-time show will no doubt capture the imagination of both the local community and visitors alike in the wonderful setting of Monikie Country Park.”
The event is suitable for all ages, but may not be advisable for children of a sensitive disposition.
