With seven weeks to go until ska legends Madness descend on Montrose, organisers have revealed ticket sales have exceeded their greatest expectations.

Madness will perform at Montrose East Links on July 5 as part of their UK tour and ticket sales have surpassed the original allocation.

David Paton, chairman of Montrose Music Festival, said: “Ticket sales to Madness in Montrose have been exceptional and we’ve been working hard to make more tickets available.

“We’re thrilled that so many music lovers will be joining us on the East Links in July for what is expected to be an incredible night.

“Madness are proving to be as popular as Status Quo and will once again put Montrose on the map as a premier live music destination.”

Meanwhile, final preparations are taking place for this weekend’s MoFest which is expected to be the biggest event in its eight-year history. Headlining MoFest weekend at the Town Hall on Friday are Northern Irish indie rock band Ash with support from The Amorettes and local band If All Else Fails.

MoFest returns to 25 venues with 100 bands performing more than 210 free gigs including 14 new acts confirmed for the weekend.

The MoFest Dome will host intimate acoustic sets while the High Street main stage will be in action on Saturday and Sunday, giving guests two days of music with bands of all ages and genres.

Also new this year is the Market Street which is a space entirely dedicated to the very best local food and drink.

The festival will draw to a close with the renowned Survivors’ Night on Sunday.

Anne Jenkins, secretary of the MoFest committee, said: “As we go into our eighth year, we have been reflecting on how far MoFest has come from its humble beginnings to now being widely regarded as the biggest free music festival in Scotland.”
