Well-known former Angus police officer and businessman Stewart Low has died very suddenly while on a cruise on the Mediterranean.

Mr Low, 76, of Arbroath, and formerly of Forfar, was the father off Stewart and Lorraine, brother of George and the late May, as well as father-in-law to Lesley and Gary.

He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Martyn, Callum, Cameron, Erica and Amy. Mr Low was born in Newtyle and educated at Forfar North School and later Forfar Academy.

He became an apprentice with Morrison’s Garage in Forfar before undertaking his national service with the RAF in Stafford.

After leaving the RAF he returned to Angus and joined Angus Police, later Tayside Police. He retired from the police in 1991 after 30 years service in Arbroath and Forfar and opened his own carpet cleaning company.

Mr Low was a member of Lodge No. 90 Kilwinning in Forfar and a long-standing member of St Andrew’s Church in Arbroath. Musically minded, he was also a past member of the Arbroath Male Voice choir and the Angus Minstrels.

Mr Low also had a strong background in sport, having played football in his youth for Forfar Central and Forfar West End.

In his later years he enjoyed a game of golf and supporting Forfar Athletic FC.

Due to the tragic circumstances of his death overseas, funeral arrangements have yet to be made.
