Hundreds of music fans were disappointed when Live in the Den at Kirriemuir was washed out at the weekend.
The Den turned into a loch after heavy rain at the end of last week caused the nearby burn to swell and flood a huge part of the grassy venue.
Around 600 people were expected to attend the event, which had a line-up of eight popular local bands and a number of stalls and activities due to add to the entertainment of the crowds.
Graham Galloway, chairman of DD8 the not-for-profit community organisation that runs the event said he was “gutted” the show had to be cancelled at the last minute.
He was disappointed for those due to attend the event and his team of helpers who had worked hard for months to prepare for it.
Graham said: “It’s a real shame. I think it was pretty clear on Friday morning that there was no way we would be able to do it down in The Den, which was under two feet of water.
“We thought about pumping out but the problem is the water from the burn coming back up in to The Den. There was no way we could have drained it.
“Even if we had been able to drain it, the site would have been a complete swamp.”
Mr Galloway said the event would return next year, with a backup venue arranged should there be bad weather.
He said: “We had one day to find an alternative venue this time and unfortunately that was not enough time and nothing worked out.
“We will be back next year and will have a contingency plan in place for bad weather. It won’t be an indoor option just somewhere that is not going to flood.”
He accepted that “summer” festivals in Britain often end up as mudbaths, with wellies and waders becoming a fashion statement at such events.
“Wet and boggy is OK but we would have needed a boat for The Den,” said Mr Galloway. “I’d like to say thank you to all the DD8 helpers for all their hard work. I am gutted it has not gone ahead.”
