A rural Angus restaurant has been put at the centre of the culinary map after being named best in Scotland at the AA Hospitality Awards.

Gordon’s Restaurant in Inverkeilor received nationwide recognition after securing the industry honour at an awards ceremony at the London Hilton in Park Lane.

The venue was named AA Restaurant of the Year for Scotland, with proud proprietor Gordon Watson on hand to pick up his prize in front of 700 invited guests and food experts including some top chefs.

He said: “We are overwhelmed that our hard work and dedication has been recognised by winning this special award. This recognises restaurants that provide cuisine of truly excellent standard as well as demonstrating innovation and ambience and providing a high standard of service and hospitality.

“This could not have come at a better time when we are celebrating 25 years in our business and, of course, we want to thank all our customers and suppliers who have supported us throughout these years.”

The two Rosette-awarded restaurant is a true family business, run by Gordon and his wife Maria, with help from their son Garry. Judges selected the 24-seat dining room for its relaxed, intimate experience which complements a personal style of cooking using Scottish seasonal produce, cooked simply and imaginatively.

AA hotel services manager Simon Numphud said Gordon’s was a “truly charming local restaurant,” adding: “The quality of food and the exquisite level of hospitality make this a commendable winner of this award.”

The awards were hosted by BBC newsreader Sophie Raworth and brought together some of the most influential people in the industry.
