Police in Dundee are reviewing CCTV images and making door-to-door inquiries to find those responsible for hurling a metal bin chute cover from the sixth floor of a Dundee multi, narrowly missing a passer-by.
Officers described the Hilltown Court incident as “reckless.”
Inspector Gordon Taylor said, “Any object like that thrown from the sixth floor could have very grave consequences. There could have been a fatal injury.”
The drama unfolded around 9.30pm on Friday, when the ‘hopper’ which covers the bin chute was launched from the Hilltown block to the ground more than 50 feet below.
The cover narrowly missed a man who was walking in the area.
It is believed that there was also a woman entering the building at the time.
Mum-of-two Nikki Halliburton, whose flat is next to the bin chute area, said, “I was in at the time with some friends and I never heard anything.
“I am very worried to hear about it, because it could have been my kids who were walking past.
“I’ve lived here for a few years and haven’t heard of anything like this before.
“There haven’t been any problems with kids that I know of.”
The net put up to prevent objects being thrown from the bin chute area has been ripped, and Nikki called for repairs to be carried out as soon as possible.
Initial police investigations have revealed that there was a group of teenage boys and girls within the block at the time, and are trying to identify them.
“There are inquiries ongoing into this reckless act to try and ascertain who has been responsible and to prevent any repetition,” said Inspector Taylor.
