Dundee Youth Council was officially launched this week at the city chambers.
Lord Provost John Letford opened the meeting with a welcome and announced that Dundee University student Matthew Landsburgh had been voted chairman.
Harris Academy pupil Jamie McGilchrist was voted in as vice-chairman.
Spokesman Shane Mochrie-Cox, community learning and development worker with Dundee City Council, said, “This year is a shadow year where the youth council will be getting the views and issues of the young people of Dundee and taking those views to the decision-makers of the city.
“It’s driven by the young people of Dundee. They have been working hard on the constitution for the past six months and it’s quite innovative for Dundee.
“Hopefully it’ll be here for a very long time to come.”
Also present at the meeting were community learning and development workers from the leisure and communities department, which supports the youth council.
Administration leader Ken Guild, education convener Liz Fordyce, depute leisure and communities convener Alan Ross and Councillor Ken Lynn were also in attendance along with council officers and guests from youth organisations from across Dundee.
