A film showcasing the skills of a Dundee breakdance crew will be previewed in Dundee on Friday, with producers claiming it could take them from amateur to professional.

Just days before national street-dance contest Urban Chillax heads to the city, a short film about last year’s winner Prostyles will be held in a Dundee warehouse.

Now in its sixth year, Urban Chillax which is to be held on Sunday in the Caird Hall has attracted a record number of entrants, with over 400 dancers getting ready to compete.

The visual extravaganza is also destined to draw impressive audience figures. The public screening will be held at Tin Roof headquarters in Ure Street at 8pm on Friday and follows Prostyles’ sell-out performance in Breakin’ Rules at Dundee Rep, which celebrated some of the best hip-hop, street and breakdancers in Scotland.

The film has been produced and directed by Pure Media, the Dundee charity which organises Urban Chillax. It was Prostyles’ prize after winning Urban Chillax last year.

Prostyles, who train regularly and participate at events all over the UK, are Stirling-born Emma Houston (19), Latvian Oleg Kiricenko (21) and their founding member, Dundee-born Ryan Tinley (24).

Emma, who is heading to London shortly to study dance professionally, said, “We were absolutely delighted to win Urban Chillax last year. It was a fantastic opportunity for us and has opened doors that would never have been available otherwise.”For more and to register visit www.urbanchillax.com or www.pmuk.org. Participants pay £6 and the audience £5. There is no need to book in advance.
