A pre-wedding disaster turned to delight when a Dundee couple who were barred by a sheriff from contacting each other were married on Saturday.
William Stupart and new bride Fiona Soutter thought their dreams of a happy wedding day were doomed after Sheriff Tom Hughes imposed bail conditions on William, who had been arrested and charged with assaulting Fiona and his proposed best man, Chris Strachan, after a stag night bust-up.
The groom denied the charges and was released on bail, however, attached were conditions barring him from approaching or contacting, or attempting to approach or contact, Fiona and Chris, despite Fiona making a plea to the court that she was happy for the wedding to go ahead and for William to return to their flat.
After an anxious few days the couple’s desperation turned to joy when an appeal to the High Court in Edinburgh to lift the conditions was successful, allowing them to complete their preparations.
They were married at Baxter Park Pavilion on Saturday afternoon with only one slight change a stand-in best man, Stuart Kinmond.
Original best man Chris was in attendance, though.
Fiona described it as the best day of her life.
She said, “It was really, really great it was amazing.
“Everybody had a great day, it went well all round and we all had a fantastic time.
“Everyone enjoyed it.”
The couple are set to go on honeymoon, but William must return to court for an intermediate diet on May 4, with trial set for May 20.
