A man has appeared privately at Dundee Sheriff Court accused of committing an armed robbery while wearing a mask, assaulting a member of staff and stealing a four figure sum from a Broughty Ferry convenience store.
George Mackie Thompson Bryceland, 53, of Arbroath Road, appeared on a petition before Sheriff Alastair Brown alleging that on January 3, at Nisa Store at 128-130 Gray Street, with face masked, he assaulted a female staff member, brandished a knife at her, pushed her on the body into a store room, demanded keys and a mobile telephone, confined her in the store room and robbed her of the keys and phone, stole a quantity of alcohol and cigarettes and £1,104.01 in cash, while on bail.
He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody while the case was continued for further examination.
It is expected he will appear in private before a sheriff again next Tuesday.
Police had earlier confirmed they had arrested and charged a man in connection with the incident, which happened shortly before 9.30pm on Saturday.
The female member of staff was said to be shaken but unhurt after the incident.
