A 21-year-old Lochee woman suffered a fractured eye socket after she was grabbed from behind and kicked in the face by an unknown attacker.
Tammy Grant believes she was the victim of mistaken identity when she was attacked in a car park near her home.
The vicious attack left the bingo hall worker with a serious injury that will be further assessed by a surgeon later this week.
The assault happened on Tuesday night as she was making her way from her home in Elder’s Court, Lochee, to nearby shops.
Recovering at home, Tammy said, “It’s quite painful. My eyes are swollen and it’s sore across the top of my nose.
“I’m on holiday from work this week, and what’s happened has ruined it.
“I was just walking to the shops through this alley when I heard a man shout a name, which I think was something like Cheryl or Sherry.
“It sounded quite far away and I didn’t think anything of it, but then I was grabbed by the back of the head, twisted down on my side and kicked in the face.
“I didn’t really see anything of the guy and the only thing I remembered was that he was quite broad Dundonian. I would guess he was about 20 to 30.
“Then he just went off and I think he maybe realised I wasn’t the person he was looking for. Then I went home and called the police.”
After giving a statement, a shocked Tammy was taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment to her eyes and nose.
Doctors diagnosed the eye socket fracture and, concerned about the swelling and possible fluid build-up, referred her to a facial surgeon.
“I haven’t been out at all today,” she continued. “I think I’ll be going out during the day but not going out after dark in this area on my own.
“I was saying to my dad earlier if you see what this guy has done to me, imagine what could happen to the person he was actually looking for.”
The police confirmed they were investigating an assault at the district housing office in Sinclair Street, Lochee, around 6.20pm on Tuesday.
A spokeswoman said, “The woman was approached from behind and had her hair pulled before being kicked and punched in the face by the man.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 0300 555 1111.
