Approval for Monikie 24-home development

Angus Council has approved the layout of a controversial housing development in Monikie.

Several residents had objected to the proposal by Ogilvie Homes to complete a long-delayed project in Granary Wynd by building 24 homes 11 more than originally envisaged.

They expressed concerns about housing density, overlooking and the impact of additional traffic, along with the potential for extra children to put pressure on the village’s school.

Some people spoke in favour of the project, believing the addition of 24 properties based on a realistic pricing strategy is welcomed.

Ogilvie had told the council they wanted to build a mix of house styles ranging from three-bedroom semi-detached to four-bedroom detached.

Approved drawings show four of the houses facing on to Panmure Road, with 10 facing on to Granary Wynd itself and the remaining 10 surrounding a cul-de-sac offshoot of the street.

The council said the development would provide 24 new housing units in a manner that generally complied with relevant development plan policies and there were no material considerations to justify refusal.

Conditions have been placed on the planning consent covering road layout and construction, street lighting and drainage.

Ogilvie has also had to agree to two of the houses being made available in perpetuity as low-cost affordable housing.
