A Dundee councillor is continuing to challenge the city chambers’ drinks bill despite being told he got his figures mixed up.
Conservative member Derek Scott believes he is correct in claiming that the council’s drinks bill increased by 30% to £9,000 this year a claim rejected by SNP administration leader Ken Guild, who said the real figure is £5,000.
Mr Scott believes guests at civic functions should be given tea, coffee or soft drinks, and thinks it is wrong for the council to be spending any money on alcohol when it was cutting its funding of charities.
Mr Guild took issue with the claim that the drinks bill for 2014 would come to £9,000, but Mr Scott was unrepentant.
“My figure is from the amendment I moved at the policy and resources committee in February when the council’s budget for 2014-15 was set,” he stated.
“This figure of £9,000 was provided by the finance department and was accepted as a competent saving by the chief executive.
“I think Councillor Guild must have been reading his notes back to front as the amount in the budget for 2012-13 for alcohol was £5,537.”
