Spoof one-man show The Only Way is Downton heading to Rep Theatre

The first national tour of Luke Kempner’s The Only Way is Downton is coming to Dundee next month.

Direct from a West End season, the spoof one-man show comes to Dundee Rep on May 3 for one night only.

Impressionist Luke Kempner made his sell-out Edinburgh debut in 2013 with The Only Way is Downton, which was loved by audiences and critics alike.

Expert mimic Luke impersonates every major character from the hit show Downton Abbey.

As celebrities start appearing at the Abbey, cultures clash and eras collide in the light-hearted parody, which takes in other TV shows and familiar modern voices to help the cast of Downton save the estate from financial ruin.

Luke has worked in musical theatre since leaving drama school, performing in Les Miserables, Avenue Q and South Pacific.

Having made his name with YouTube hit, Downstairs at Downton, Luke has made the leap to his first solo show, which tours across the UK.

He said: “I researched impressions and realised they needed to be updated, that I needed to come up with something that hadn’t been done before.

“It needed to be current, not impersonations of Borat or Vicky Pollard. I wanted to stay away from comedy characters invented by someone else.

“And I wanted a story, a narrative for the characters, so I concentrated on shows like the X Factor, I’m A Celebrity, Pointless, The Great British Bake Off, and of course Downton.”

Tickets are on sale at Dundee Rep Theatre box office on 01382 223530 or at dundeerep.co.uk.
