Dundee FC director Steve Martin has paid tribute to the club’s dearly departed fans.

While the club and its supporters celebrate the league title win on Saturday, Steve took time out to remember former fans who would have loved to share the day.

He said: “I felt compelled to share our celebrations with those dearly departed Dees we have lost recently (too many to mention I’m afraid).

“I chose to visit Willie Reilly on behalf of all those in the “High Stand”.

Mr Reilly, who died in 2012 at the age of 59, was renowned as a friend of fans and players alike.

Fans were quick to praise Steve’s tribute on Facebook.

Anthony Marshall posted: “He’d be so proud. I am sure he’ll be upstairs having a party. Along with all the other Dees that have departed for the high stand, including my grandads. Here’s to the Dees in the high stand, they shall never be forgotten.”

Paul Mitchell said: “Fantastic gesture well done, sure Willie and the rest of the Dee’s in the high stand had a party too.”

Former Dundee keeper Robert Douglas said: “Best thing you have done as a director Steve. Great touch.”

Greg Petrie said: “Nice touch, great gesture for a lad that supported his team no matter what.”

And Denise Crichton posted: “Ah Willie would have loved that.”
