Planners give green light to social club’s beer garden

A Dundee pub is being allowed to create a beer garden, even though the development breaches a council planning policy.

Fairfield Sports & Leisure Social Club, in Drumgeith Road, asked for permission to install a fence outside the north of the building to surround seating for up to 60 people.

The nearest homes are about 30m away on the opposite side of Drumgeith Road and proposals for outdoor drinking areas that are more than 150m sq in area are usually supported only if they are at least 45m from the nearest homes.

A planning officer said: “They are separated from the site by a busy road and are screened by dense hedging.

“It is considered that the approval of the proposed outdoor drinking area is unlikely to adversely affect the level of amenity afforded to the occupiers of these properties.

“The erection of screen fencing shall also help to alleviate any potential noise issues.”

Planning permission has been granted with the condition that the beer garden will operate no later than 9pm between September and June and 10pm in July and August.

Also to safeguard residential amenity, no amplified music or vocals will be allowed outdoors.
