Police now believe man found with knife in neck in Dundee street stabbed himself

Police investigating the circumstances surrounding their discovery of a man injured on a West End street are no longer looking for anyone in connection with the incident.

A 34-year-old man was found conscious and lying on the pavement on Blackness Road with a knife sticking out of his neck on May 14.

There was intense police activity in the area following the incident, but it is now understood the man’s injury is being treated as self-inflicted.

A passing motorist discovered the man and went to his aid, contacting the police and ambulance at 9.45pm.

He was taken to Ninewells Hospital by ambulance and received treatment.

His current condition is unknown.

The wounded man was found between Abbotsford Street and Peddie Street and officers cordoned off the area while they carried out a forensic examination of the scene.

Police inquiries were carried out to establish the circumstances and officers said they were keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed an incident or who may have been aware of a disturbance in the area around the time.

However, on Wednesday a police spokeswoman confirmed they are now not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
