The legendary Groucho’s pop quiz, which took place every Sunday night for several years in the old Westport Bar, is being resurrected after almost 20 years.
The event, at Clark’s on Lindsay Street, is being held as a fundraiser for Westfest’s Big Sunday at Magdalen Green on June 8, and in keeping with the quiz’s history, all the questions will be based entirely back in the day.
Between December 1989 and 1995, the quirkiest and arguably most difficult pop quiz in local circles attracted big crowds to the Westie in the hope of winning Westie meal vouchers, Groucho’s LPs or rare T-shirts from the most obscure bands.
Originally run by Groucho’s owner Alastair “Breeks” Brodie it was frequently won by any team containing music boffin Frank Mills.
So often in fact that he was eventually given the job of compiling the quiz. Breeks and Frank will resume their duties as joint quizmasters on Wednesday night.
Entry is £3 per member and the fun starts at 8pm.
