Sex offender ends up in court after disappearing for two months
ByThe Courier Reporter
A sex offender who disappeared for two months has appeared in court for failing to notify police of his whereabouts.
Paul Dolan, 37, of Baldovan Terrace, Dundee, was required to tell police where he was living within three days, as he is subject to the Sexual Offences Act.
However, between January 4 and March 8 officers were unable to trace him at his given address and eventually tracked him down at the Riverside football pitches.
Defence solicitor Kevin Hampton told the court Dolan had been evicted from the property at Strathmartine Road and had lost his job.
He said: “His life was chaotic at the time. He managed to secure a property with his partner and accepts that he should have contacted the authorities.”
Sheriff Charles McNair said custody was still an option.
He said: “I don’t say that a non-custodial sentence will be granted at the end of the day because this is a very serious matter and, over a period of two months, you didn’t notify police of where you were.
“You must have known the consequences.”
Sentence was deferred until July 30.
