BROUGHTY FERRY lifeboat received its first call of 2013 just three hours into the new year.

Both lifeboats were scrambled after 3.15am on Tuesday after reports of a man in distress at the end of St Andrews pier.

The lifeboats remained on standby while officers from Fife Constabulary spoke to the man.

A lifeboat spokesman said the man was taken away by police and both boats stood down.
