Oxjam’s livingroom gigs raise £2,500 for charity

Dundee bands have raised more than £2,500 for charity by playing gigs in people’s livingrooms, conservatories and flats.

During October, 67 musicians played a series of “secret” gigs in homes across the city.

The fundraising gigs in aid of Oxfam was organised by Daisy Dundee, who signed up 23 of Dundee’s finest bands to take part.

The gigs were run as part of the annual national music festival Oxjam, which promotes the grassroots music scene across the UK.

Daisy said: “I couldn’t be happier with how this year has gone. It’s incredible to think we raised over £2,500 just by having gigs in people’s homes.

“The idea was to create a buzz about the local music scene in the city and unite audiences, as well as raise vital funds for Oxjam.

“And because we took gigs out into the local community, it meant that different groups of people from across the city could get involved.”

Multi-instrumentalist Esperi Chris James Marr played an hour-long set on October 30 in student Winnie Tong’s city centre living-room in front of a hushed crowd of 30 guests, while the host’s pet hedgehog slept in the room next door.

Chris said: “Playing at one of Daisy’s house concerts for Oxjam was such a great experience. Big thanks to Daisy and Winnie, Chloe, Drogo the hedgehog and everyone that made it along.”
