Thousands of pounds in cash and a huge haul of narcotics have been recovered following raids across Tayside.

Police swooped on a number of addresses last week as part of Operation Slate.

Officers carried out controlled searches under warrant in Dundee, Angus and Perthshire as part of the intelligence-led initiative to target drug-related crime across Tayside.

The local policing teams were supported by specialist officers during the operation.

Senior officers said quantities of heroin, cocaine, diazepam and cannabis were recovered.

Approximately £3,000 in cash was also seized.

Last Wednesday a 39-year-old man was charged following a drugs search at an address in Macalpine Road in Dundee.

The following day police carried out searches at addresses in Lordburn Place and Glenmoy Terrace, Forfar, resulting in three men and one female being charged with drugs offences.

In Dundee a 29-year-old man was charged in connection with a search at an address in St Giles Terrace, and a 37-year-old man has been charged following a drugs search at Stronsay Court in Perth.

Also in Perth, two men were charged with drug offences having been traced by officers in the city centre.

On Friday a 40-year-old man was charged with drug offences in connection with a search of an address at High Street, Kirriemuir.

In Perthshire addresses were searched in Perth and Aberfeldy, where heroin, cocaine and cannabis were recovered.

As a result, three men are being held in custody.

Detective Inspector Paul Riley, who is leading Tayside Division’s CID pro-active team, previously talked about the aims of Operation Slate.

He said: “You have told us that drug-related crime is a concern and we listen to our communities throughout Tayside.

“Tackling drugs is one of our top priorities and the action taken today demonstrates our commitment to dealing with this issue.

“There will be no let up and we will continue to work with partners, elected members and communities themselves to deter this activity, taking action to ensure that drugs are taken off our streets and those that are involved in drug supply are arrested and charged.”
