Huge numbers flooded through the gates of the Dundee Flower and Food Festival at the weekend, making the 27th annual event one of the best in its history.

Warm sunshine, food and drink, colourful blooms and some carefully selected headline acts combined with some truly spectacular vegetables to make it a hit.

Judge and major supporter Councillor Craig Melville declared himself astonished by the sight of “an onion as big as my head” as some of Scotland’s finest growers displayed their wares.

Stunning floral arrangements, miniature gardens and those vegetables filled the giant marquees at Camperdown Park and were viewed by a little more than 20,000 people from all over Scotland.

Fine food and drink flowed freely and there was barely a moment’s respite for those at Iain R Spink’s Arbroath Smokie stall.

Saturday brought MasterChef presenter Gregg Wallace to the show, together with CBeebies star Mr Bloom who saw parents and youngsters queue right around his pavilion to enjoy his gardening-themed songs and fun.

In keeping with the merry atmosphere generated, Sunday’s personalities were big, bold and fun too none more so than Tony Singh as the top Edinburgh chef added his charm to the food tents and showed off the culinary skills that have made his name.

Music also filled the air, with highlights including a performance by Perthshire’s own Dougie MacLean.

A delighted Mr Melville said: “We started out 27 years ago as a traditional flower show but the event really has gone from strength to strength since then and I think this will be one of our best ever years.”
