Dundee Karting centre closed down after operator goes into liquidation

The Dundee Karting indoor go-kart centre has closed and its operator has gone into provisional liquidation.

Customers have been left upset and out of pocket.

Writing on the centre’s Facebook page, Charlene Campbell said: “They confirmed my booking and took £60 off me only to turn up and find it was closed.”

Tony Dumbreck said: “Just been to the karting arena to find it shut up and the main gates locked. No signs explaining why, but unfortunately it seems as though they might have closed down.”

The Myrekirk Road centre, the biggest indoor venue for karting in Scotland, opened in summer 2012 following a £400,000 investment. It boasted a fleet of karts capable of going up to 40mph and was open seven days a week.

The business was run by Karting Ecosse but it has been placed into provisional liquidation on the order of the sheriff court following a petition by estate agents Castlelaw Estates.

Insolvency practitioner Graeme Smith has been made provisional liquidator.

Karting Ecosse is understood to have been run by general manager John Kerr and Ray Hooper.

Company records show Mr Hooper stood down as a director and company secretary last autumn.
