A Dundee family home will need thousands of pounds worth of repairs after a fire this morning.
The family said they were lucky to have escaped unhurt due to their smoke detector going off while they were sleeping.
Three fire engines rushed to the detached property on Gleneagles Avenue at around 6.10am to deal with the fire, which was in a wall cavity behind the boiler in an upstairs bedroom.
The boiler and the wall insulation, all the way down the garage, had to be ripped out due to the damage.
Some of the furniture also suffered smoke damage.
The house’s owner, who didn’t want to be named, said: “We were in the middle of moving and we would’ve gone yesterday, but my van was still in the garage being repaired.
“Then this morning, we woke up to the fire alarm going off and smoke coming out of the wall. It’s the last thing we needed and it has added to the stress.
“I was planning to sell the house but now that’s on hold until we get things fixed. It’s going to be very expensive but hopefully it will come out of the insurance.
“Luckily nobody was injured. As soon as we heard the fire alarm we got up, opened the windows and got out of the house, then the fire crews arrived.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesman said that it was still unclear what had caused the fire.
He added: “We extinguished the main fire, which was in a wall cavity behind a boiler, shortly after getting the call at 6.10am.
“Crews stayed to check for hidden fire spread in the bedroom and garage. We had three appliances in attendance and there were no injuries.”
