Discovery Point brings taste of Antarctica to Dundee

A touch of Antarctica has arrived in Dundee not, for once, in the form of the weather but in a film launched at Discovery Point.
The Last Place On Earth Discovering Antarctica celebrates the role of Dundee in exploring one of the planet’s most inhospitable terrains.
The £90,000 film, which features images from Dundee Heritage Trust’s collections, features a voiceover from actor Brian Cox and charts polar exploration from its beginnings to the present day.
Trust heritage and exhibitions director Gill Poulter said, “The new show aims to place the achievements of Discovery in a wider context of Antarctic exploration and science.
“The idea is to give people a sense of the pioneering nature of the early polar explorers and the dangers and hardships they faced in the pursuit of scientific knowledge and the discovery of new lands.”
