Councillors are set to consider proposals for a new primary school and nursery in Dundee.

Plans for the new Sidlaw View Primary School and Jessie Porter Nursery School, part of a proposed shared campus with the new Baldragon Academy, will go before the council’s development management committee on Monday.

If approved, the primary school and nursery school will share the same two-storey building which will also contain a library, a dining room, a gymnasium and a performance stage.

The new primary school will have a roll of around 400 pupils while around 100 children will be expected to attend nursery.

In a report to the committee, director of city development Mike Galloway said: “The new primary/nursery school will replace the existing dated school facilities, providing a school campus that is of a high-quality design, both in terms of its layout and functionality as well as its external appearance.”

The entire site development, is being handled by Robertson Construction and Amber Blue and is expected to cost around £27 million.

Half of the proposed Western Gateway development, also known as the Dykes of Gray Village, was rejected in December due to concerns over children being forced to travel five miles to attend Ardler Primary School. However, plans lodged by a separate developer for 230 homes on the other half of the site were approved.

A new application by Springfield Properties will also go before the development management committee on Monday.

The plans have been recommended for approval, despite not meeting the criteria of the Dundee Local Development Plan.
