VIDEO: Fans sing the praises of Jackie the Musical

An audience in Dundee were transported back to the 1970s on Thursday night with the premiere of Jackie the Musical.

The nostalgic show, which is based on the DC Thomson magazine of the same name, took viewers back to a forgotten era of flared trousers, tank tops and all the angst of young and ‘older’ love.

The plot centres on a recent divorcee who seeks advice once more from the pages of her old Jackie annuals on ‘how to get a boyfriend’.

All the classic parts of the magazine the quizzes, the fashion tips, the do’s and don’ts on a first date and the Cathy and Claire problem pages are eagerly analysed by the newly-single 50-something heroine.

An exciting soundtrack of hits from the 1970s including classics from Donny Osmond, David Cassidy and Marc Bolan accompanies her journey.

Karen Ascoe, who plays the older Jackie, said: “It is a really great story, very funny with lots of great costumes with all the 70s stuff and loads of great music.”

The Jackie magazine was published between 1963 and 1993 and at its peak sold more than one million copies a week.
