Graduates like these have a milestone day ahead of them.

More than 1,000 Dundee students will graduate from university over the next two days.

The winter ceremonies, taking place on Thursday and Friday, will see students from a wide range of disciplines receive their undergraduate and postgraduate certificates.

To mark the occasion Dundee’s iconic penguins have also been kitted out in graduation gowns and mortar boards.

The outfits were made by Jen Urch, a third-year textiles student at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design.

Taking place at the Caird Hall, the winter celebrations allow students whose courses finish after the summer graduation to receive their awards as soon as possible after completing their studies.

This morning students from the schools of life sciences, science and engineering, and education and social work will receive their awards from 10am.

The afternoon ceremony will begin at 2.30pm and see graduands from the schools of art and design, humanities and social sciences cross the stage.

The third ceremony, for students from the schools of nursing and health sciences, dentistry and medicine will take place from 10am tomorrow.

The Friday ceremony will also see honorary degrees bestowed upon Cathy Warwick, general secretary of the Royal College of Midwives, and Mary McCluskey, artistic director with the Scottish Youth Theatre.
