Seven arrests after pitch invasions during Dundee United’s Scottish Cup victory over Ross County

Stewards kept the jubilant United players away from the fans at full-time after the earlier pitch invasions.

Police say seven people were arrested after Dundee United fans spilled on to the pitch during their team’s Scottish Cup win at Ross County.

The Tangerines beat the odds to hit back from 2-1 down and a sending-off to record a late victory.

However, the excitement was too much for some fans who scaled the barriers and ran on to the pitch to celebrate after each of United’s goals.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that seven men have been arrested in connection with football-related disorder at the Global Energy Stadium at the Ross County v Dundee United game today.

“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”

United took a large and noisy crowd north as they looked to book a place in the semi-final.

The club had appealed for fans to stay off the pitch, saying: “All fans are respectfully reminded to conduct themselves in a manner that does not bring the club and its support into disrepute and to adhere to the ground regulations and code of conduct of the Global Energy Stadium…

“All fans are advised to remain within the stand and to refrain from entering trackside or the field of play.”

Match commander Colin Gough said: “It is disappointing that a small minority of fans were involved within disorder in the ground.

“Disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated in any format. Enquiries are continuing and there is potential for further arrests.”
