Local youngsters Olivia and Morvenn are looking forward to the store's arrival in Dundee.

Krispy Kreme’s sweet treats have been known to cause traffic chaos as fans queue up for their glazed goods and now they are coming to Dundee.

Managers at the world-renowned doughnut chain, which was founded in 1937, have confirmed that they will open an outlet in the city.

Chief marketing officer Judith Denby would not be drawn on where and when the store would open but the company has already put up a number of adverts for roles in the city.

The opening of Scotland’s first Krispy Kreme in Edinburgh caused road tailbacks as doughnut aficionados queued in their hundreds to try the company’s wares.

Ms Denby: “We’re hoping to be bringing the joy of Krispy Kreme to Dundee soon, and will reveal details on location and opening date as soon as we can.”

Krispy Kreme which is thought to be envisaging a city-centre location for its Dundee branch has confirmed it will open a store in Aberdeen next month.

The Dundee manager job advert states: “The successful candidate will have responsibility for managing our brand new store opening, our Dundee Box Store, supporting the continued growth to the success within our Edinburgh market.”

Dozens of people in the City of Discovery took to social media to describe their delight at the news that the city will be getting the high-profile bakery.

Scott Crossan said the news brought “too much excitement for a Wednesday”.

Police had to be called to provide road management when the group opened a drive-through store in Edinburgh in 2013.

Hundreds of other people also braved near-freezing tempratures and snow as they camped out overnight to ensure they were first in line when the eatery first opened its doors.
