Dundee students offered a smarter way of paying for travel

Students are to be offered smartcards to pay for bus travel.
National Express Dundee is planning to roll out its service after the success of a pilot project involving more than 80 Dundee College students who had their matriculation cards activated to carry a weekly bus pass.
College principal Christina Potter said: “We are continually seeking ways of improving services to our students.
“This innovative system gives flexibility and convenience and we are delighted to have played a role in the pilot.”
Phil Smith, the bus company’s managing director, said: “Now that we’ve tested the technology, we feel confident that we can begin to roll out smartcard ticketing across the city.
“It’s yet another way we can make public transport an easier, more efficient choice for the people of Dundee.”
Students will be able to add the bus payment system to their National Entitlement Card. Another smartcard will be launched for the general public in the coming weeks. It is hoped smart ticketing will soon be introduced across the country.
