Former Broughty Ferry actress Sandy Imlach dies aged 54

Actress Sandy Imlach, who grew up in Broughty Ferry, has died in hospital in Hong Kong at the age of 54.

Sandy was born in Singapore and moved to Broughty Ferry in infancy when her father Ian returned to Scotland to take up business as an architect and as a lecturer at Duncan of Jordanstone College in Dundee.

His work included his own award-winning house on Victoria Road and the synagogue at St Mary’s Place.

Her mother Ann would frequently appear in The Courier as a founder member of the North East of Scotland Cat Club and of the Siamese Cat Society of Scotland back in the 1960s.

After starring in productions at Grove Academy, where she was a pupil, Sandy studied drama at the RSAMD Glasgow, where she graduated and took prizes for both best promising actress and best comedy actress.

The featured photograph accompanied an article in The Courier entitled Happy Spell Up A Beanstalk noting her role as principal boy in the pantomime at the Byre Theatre, St Andrews.

She landed that role in minutes after an impromptu audition in the Byre foyer.

She is survived by her husband Peter and daughter Zara. Her son Jonathan died in childhood.
