A Dundee woman was rushed to hospital after allegedly being stabbed.

The 32-year-old was found collapsed in Byron Street in the Law area of the city and taken to Ninewells. An ambulance spokesman said the crew had managed to get the woman to the hospital inside 20 minutes.

Police said a 63-year-old man has been charged with serious assault and is expected to appear at court on Tuesday.

Inspector Graham Young said: “It was a 999 call received about 5.40pm on Friday.

“A 32-year-old female was found collapsed in Byron Street with a wound suffered in an apparent assault. Her injuries are not considered to be life-threatening but she was in Ninewells overnight for observation.

“A 63-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the incident and will appear at Dundee Sheriff Court tomorrow.”

The alleged attack happened at an address near to Byron Street’s junction with Byron Crescent.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We were called on Friday March 29 at 5.40pm following a report of a female being stabbed.

“We received two calls from Tayside Police about the incident. We had one ambulance crew attend at the scene and the patient was taken to Ninewells.

“They got to Ninewells at just after 6pm.”

According to one local resident, the road was blocked off following the alleged incident.

She said: “It happened around 6pm on Friday night.

“The sirens and blue flashing lights brought it to my attention. There were three police cars outside, an ambulance and a police van.”

Another neighbour said: “I’m shocked. Nothing like this has happened in this area before.”
