Dundee’s network of buses may be improved after the council offered four new services to tender.

It has offered contracts for the routes Kirkton to city centre, city centre to Ninewells Hospital, Ethiebeaton Park to Broughty Ferry/West Ferry and Claverhouse to city centre which could be worth up to £300,000 a year.

Although the exact details are still to be negotiated, National Express Dundee and Stagecoach Strathtay are already considering taking on the services.

A spokesman for National Express said, “We are looking with interest at all of the routes announced by the council.”

A Stagecoach Strathtay spokesman said, “Dundee City Council have issued tender details for a number of routes in the Dundee and Broughty Ferry area and we are currently evaluating the possibilities.”

The new services, which are scheduled for August, will be partially paid for by the council because the authority thinks they have a high social value.

The services were put to tender after officials spent around four months reviewing the commercial and subsidised bus network and measuring levels of accessibility in Dundee.

A council spokesman said, “The closing date for tendering is June 8.

“A report is expected to go to the city development committee on June 27 to discuss the award of contracts.”
