A Dundee pensioner who fell 30 feet to his death on Thursday has been described by neighbours as a “nice guy”.
George Carr (67), from Fintry Drive, had been working on scaffolding at a house in Somerville Place at the junction of Upper Constitution Street when the accident happened shortly after noon.
Tayside Police and the Scottish Ambulance Service attended but he died at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics.
Mr Carr’s family, including wife Irene and son Michael, were too upset to talk about the tragedy.
Mr Carr’s neighbours were shocked to hear of his death and described him as “a nice guy.”
Raymond Feltham said, “I talked to him and we sometimes had a pint together. He used to be an engineer I think and he worked on the rigs, but I think he was retired.
“I’ve only been here two years so I didn’t really know him for that long, but he was a nice guy.”
Another neighbour said he had seen Mr Carr going out that morning and assumed he was going to work.
“I don’t know any more than that,” he said.
A Tayside Police spokesman said, “It’s a terrible accident. Mr Carr had been working with a colleague on the scaffolding at about 12.10pm when he fell.
“A joint police and Health and Safety Executive investigation is being carried out. There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
Coldside councillor Jimmy Black said, “This is clearly a tragic accident and certainly the council will want to know how it happened.”
