Work on a multi-storey car park in the centre of Dundee is progressing well.
That was the message delivered to the Will Dawson, convener of Dundee City Council’s city development committee by contractors Mansell Construction Services as he paid a visit to the site.
The 20-metre-high structure is part of the city’s £31.5 million leisure pool development on East Marketgait/East Whale Lane which, when finished, will accommodate up to 500 cars.
Mr Dawson said: “With the impressive rate at which the leisure pool next door is progressing it is important that we do not forget that the number of safe, high quality parking spaces in the city will be boosted by this new car park.
“Dundee already has excellent off-street parking provision at Greenmarket and Gellatly Street and the latest addition will mean that there really is no excuse for commuters or visitors who come to the city by car to park anywhere else.”
Accessed from East Whale Lane the multi-storey car park will have a link to the new leisure pool and pedestrian access to both East Marketgait and the adjacent Gallagher Retail Park.
Mr Dawson continued: “In recent years the council has spent considerable time and money ensuring that motorists have well-lit, well-surfaced and weather-proof off-street car parks where we know that drivers feel more secure about themselves and their vehicles.
“The addition of a new one, again perfectly placed on the inner ring road to provide access to it by car and from it on foot to the main shopping and commercial areas of the city centre, can only be a benefit.”
