A Broughty Ferry newsagent has hit out at vandals who smashed his shop window.

The damage was discovered when owner Mohammed Imran’s father-in-law went to open up the shop around 6am on Tuesday.

Mr Imran said: ”I looked at the CCTV and it happened at four o’clock in the morning. My father-in-law found it when he came to open up this morning.

”The person came from Laurence Street. My shop is on the corner and I can see the whole picture, although I don’t know who it is.

”I don’t know why he did it it’s not very nice. But it looked like he knew what he was doing.

”He came from the side street and was hiding from the camera. If it was a drunk or a junkie they wouldn’t know and they would be right up on the front of the camera.

”This is normally a very nice, quiet street, and nothing like this has ever happened to me before.”

Mr Imran said other shops in the neighbourhood had been vandalised before in what he called isolated incidents.

”My neighbour across the road had their window put in twice, I think in the past six months, but it’s not a normal thing here,” he said.

”I don’t know how much that will cost and I can’t get my window fixed until tomorrow because all the places are shut, so I just got a big piece of wood from B&Q and I have boarded it up myself.

”The police came about 11 o’clock and I think they are going to look at another CCTV, maybe Marks & Spencers’ CCTV, because he came from that side.”

A spokesman for Tayside Police confirmed the incident had been reported to them and they are investigating.
