A 35-year-old man has been charged with murder after a man died following a disturbance at a Dundee pub.
The man will appear at Dundee Sheriff Court today.
There has been intense police activity in the streets around the Maltman Public House in Mains Road following the incident late on Friday night in which 29-year-old Jimmy Getty lost his life.
Officers were seen visiting addresses in Mains Road, Thistle Street and Main Street gathering evidence in the inquiry, and were also seen searching nearby gardens and open ground.
The pub, Mains Road and the adjacent Mid Road were closed as officers worked at the crime scene to collect forensic material which may be used as part of the case.
Meanwhile, police swooped on a house in Westcroft Road, Midmill, as part of the investigation.
Police cars were sited there all weekend and on Sunday a white police van and forensics officers visited the house.
Mr Getty, of Hill Street in the city, sustained serious injuries outside the Maltman. Paramedics rushed to the scene at around 11pm on Friday, before transferring him to Ninewells Hospital where he later died.
Mr Getty leaves behind his partner and four children. He had previously worked as a mechanic but was unemployed.
His family were not available for comment.
Mr Getty’s uncle, Don Stewart, who lives in Manchester, issued an appeal via Facebook, urging witnesses to come forward. ”He has small children so please; please don’t hold anything from the police,” he said.
Resident Mary Stewart (66) said she had seen police searching drains in the street and interviewing neighbours in the area.
She added: ”I live just round the corner and it is frightening to know that is going on.”
Regulars at the Bowbridge Bar, just yards from the scene, said they had heard a man had handed himself in to the police at around 5pm on Saturday in connection with the incident.
Detective Inspector Gary Ogilvie said: ”We are very keen to speak to anyone who was in the Maltman public house on Friday afternoon and evening as well as anyone who saw a fight outside about 11pm.”
