Dundee’s jobs market has received a much-needed shot in the arm with the news that the Inland Revenue is creating 150 jobs in the city.
Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs are offering the six-month contracts, starting in April, to cover the busy summer period.
It is part of a move to employ around 1000 staff across the UK, a spokesman said.
“We are recruiting 150 staff on fixed-term contracts, between April and September. It’s good news but it is only a fixed-term appointment,” he stressed.
“People who are successful and do a good job would certainly be considered if any full-time positions came up at a later date.
“We are downsizing at the moment and these jobs are only a seasonal appointment.”
He added, “A thousand positions are being advertised throughout the UK.”
There have been fears that around 700 jobs could be lost at the Dundee centre due to changes in out-of-work benefits.
Jim McGovern MP raised the issue in Parliament in November, while workers staged protests during last year against the possible cuts, and rumours of HMRC merging the Dundee and Perth centres.
