Care home worker suspended after drugs found

A care home worker in Dundee has been suspended following an allegation of drug misuse.

Police were called and a staff member was escorted from the Pitkerro Care Home premises after allegedly being found with drugs.

A police spokesman confirmed a woman has been reported to the procurator fiscal. He said officers had recovered class B drugs after being called to the woman’s workplace in Pitkerro Road last week.

The suspension has been reported to Social Care and Social Work Improvement Scotland (SCSWIS), formerly known as the Care Commission.

Lawrie Davidson, inspection programme manager with SCSWIS, said, “We have been notified by the service providers at Pitkerro Care Centre about the suspension of a member of staff for possessing drugs at work.

“We are satisfied that the service are taking the correct steps to deal with this matter. Our understanding is this was an auxiliary worker who was not directly responsible for providing care to service users.

“SCSWIS is working closely with the provider.”

The home is operated by Southern Cross Healthcare, whose spokesman said, “We can confirm that a member of staff at our Pitkerro Care Centre was suspended last week.

“In accordance with our company policy we cannot comment further on this case until our internal investigation.”
