A 74-year-old Dundee pensioner was knocked to the ground and robbed at his own front door.
The assault, which CID officers described as “particularly nasty,” took place in King Street, just outside the large Weaver’s Yard block of flats, at around 7.15pm on Monday.
The elderly victim, who declined to speak about his ordeal, had been returning home from the city centre when he was pushed over from behind, sustaining a small cut to his chin.
One of the thieves rifled through the man’s pockets while he lay on the ground, stealing a black Sony Ericsson mobile phone and a small amount of money.
Another man was standing watching the attack and it is understood he may have been involved.
The men may have run up Dens Brae or into Ladywell Avenue after the incident. Both are described as being in their early 20s.
A man described as being around 40 years old helped the pensioner home after the assault and it is possible he knew him previously. The senior citizen did not require medical attention.
Detective constable Paul McIlravey, who is investigating the case, said, “This was a particularly nasty ordeal for the man concerned, who was left shaken up by the assault.
“We are particularly interested in talking to a man who walked the elderly gentleman back to the front door of his home address, as he may have witnessed the incident. We would urge him to get in contact with the police as soon as possible.”
