Wormit has some charming new waterfront residents — wooden seals.
The sculptures at Wormit Bay have been attracting some attention since they were installed.
They were commissioned by countryside ranger Kate Morison on behalf of Fife Coast and Countryside Trust as part of the Fife Coastal Path northern extension.
This section of the path is under development and will continue the route from the Tay Road Bridge to Newburgh.
Path improvements have already been carried out along the Wormit to Balmerino section, and it is hoped all the necessary negotiations will be completed this year so the path can be officially opened.
Kate said, “The Tay Estuary is noted for its seal populations. However, often all that is visible of them is a collection of indiscriminate blobs on a sandbank.
“The seal sculptures serve a dual purpose, as seats and also to give people a feel for what they are seeing on the sandbanks at close hand.”
The seals were carved from single pieces of cedar by Pete Boucher, from Moffat, who created similar works for Ravenscraig Park, Kirkcaldy.
