Carnegie Primary School is ‘on schedule and on budget’

The new £7.8 million Carnegie Primary School is less than 100 days away from completion and is said to be both on schedule and within budget.

Work is progressing on the school, with the final phases of construction being put in place.

The school will have a number of sustainable features, including a combined heat and power engine to heat the building and provide electricity, rainwater harvesting technology and natural ventilation.

It will also have community features for the public.

Its sports features will include a grass playing field and smaller games court.

In addition, it will have a sensory garden, a wildflower meadow area, an eco garden, tree planting, a dining terrace for staff and pupils, lockable cycle racks and landscaping.

Fife Council faced difficulties in deciding where to locate the new primary school, but eventually chose a site at South Fod West in Dunfermline’s eastern expansion.ProgressingThe council’s education committee chairman, Councillor Douglas Chapman, said the school will be “fit for the 21st century,” and that work is progressing on time.

“Carnegie Primary School is bang on budget and, despite the horrific winter we have had, the school is also bang on schedule to allow keys to be handed over to Fife Council in early July,” he said.

“With less than 100 days to go until completion, great praise needs to go to the contractors Morgan Sindall and our Fife Council team for keeping up a cracking pace, and to the school’s head teacher, staff and parents for the support they have given during this building phase.

“We are anticipating that around 225 children will start at Carnegie in August, with around another 80 in the nursery.

“Work is already under way in the school to make sure that a smooth transition will take place for every child and that many of the parents’ questions are answered before the historic first term starts.

“A school with the name Carnegie is always going to aspire to the highest level and everything I am seeing around this new school, from the school’s leadership, to the enthusiasm of the children and to the quality of the building, makes me confident that this is a school that will more than live up to its name.”
